Records of the Winyah Indigo Society, 1788-1918, as well as materials documenting projects supported by the Society, such as the Georgetown Library Society (records, 1799-1814). Records of the Society included in typescript volumes (1807-1814) and on microfilm (1788-1918) include account books, rules, minutes, book lists of holdings, and ledgers from originals held by the Society. Contains Library Society minutes, rules adopted 31 Jan. 1799, with subsequent amendments and date of ratification through 25 Apr. 1806, listing founding members and subscriptions to periodicals in the United States, England, and Netherlands; and minutes, 6 Nov. 1807-7 Oct. 1814, of the Winyah Indigo Society (page 49 and passim). Minutes from both organizations are interspersed through one volume, documenting various activities, including expansion of the library room, 28 Jan. 1803, continuation of lease on the property, motion to send a letter of thanks to Aaron Burr for his presentation of books and maps to the Society, and periodic references re investment stock accounts of the membership, fines incurred, and expenditures paid to the library. Also includes numerous references to funding and administering the Society's "Bounty Scholars," a scholarship program for the education of the community's poor and orphaned children.

Aaron Burr Jr. (February 6, 1756 – September 14, 1836) was an American politician and lawyer. A Founding Father, he served as the third vice president of the United States during President Thomas Jefferson's first term from 1801 to 1805.
